The Mozilla Suite comes with a nice "front page" editor. That means you don't have to know allot of HTML code. It allows you to build the page as you would see it. It's a good program for beginners to learn about page lay out and of course it's free. If you have some knowledge with html then check out CoffeeCup. It's very powerful and has lots of goodies. It's not free but you can buy a whole suite for under $100 dollars. You can also get some free downloads from cnet.com. Just go to Downloads and look under Web Authoring and HTML Editors You need to create a folder called Public. This is where you will work and save all of your web files. Now place any photos you want to display on your web site in the Public folder. If you have graphics you need to put those in the Public folder also. Now your ready to start building a page. Open your composer or editor. I'm using Mozilla Composer. Now add text buy typing. Then select that text and you can change the size color and font. Now let's add a photo. Push the image button and select your Public folder. Now chose the image or graphic you want to place on your page and click OK. You can change the background color buy clicking Format on the file menu bar, then Page Color and Background. Now you should save your page to your Public folder and name it index. You can always rename this file later to whatever you need. But if you own your own Domain the the first page will always be called index. A host is where your web pages are kept to be viewed by the world. Most of the time they run a UNIX system and have very large hard drives. They have addresses much like your home would have. So when you place your Domain or web pages in their home you get their address, hence we call them our Host. Once you have selected a Host you need a Domain. On your Host site will be a way to check Domain names. It will ask you what you would like to call your site. for example (drdan.com) It will then query to see if this name is available. If it's not, you will need to try again. Once you find you Domain name your Host will take it from there and get your Domain online. Then they will send you an email with your user name and password to log on to your site for publishing. Now that you have created your site and got your own Domain, It's time to publish your files and photos to your new site. To do this you will use an FTP program. Mozilla has it's own program. Just push the Publish button in the Composer and fill in the blanks with your new information. Once you have connected you can choose the files under your Public folder and send them to your new Domain. |
